Puglia on a sailing boat: places not to be missed

With about 800 km of coastline, Puglia is one of the most beautiful Italian regions to visit by boat: from the Ionian to the Adriatic, beautiful beaches alternate with breathtaking scenery, characteristic seaside villages and magical places, witnesses of millenary culture with an all-Mediterranean charm that unites the heel of Italy to neighboring Greece, Croatia and Albania.
The best way to discover Puglia from the sea is perhaps on a sailing boat: a slow-paced journey awaits us to live in symbiosis with nature, with the sea, the wind, the sun and the stars to give us a unique experience with only the waves as a soundtrack, sailing from Salento to the Gargano before setting sail to Croatia, perhaps choosing the boat of our dreams directly online on a site dedicated to yacht charter in Croatia.

Now let's see which are the main places to visit on a boat cruise in Puglia and the lower Adriatic.

Salento, from the Ionian to the Adriatic

Our journey starts from Gallipoli. Also called "the pearl of the Ionian", the queen of Salento nightlife, of Greek origin, Gallipoli offers a delightful historic center and characteristic small ports. Very close to the center is the Purità beach, while further away you can admire other beaches, all very fascinating.
Moving further south of Gallipoli we find the Pescoluse area, which with its paradisiacal beaches is also called "the Maldives of Salento".
Continuing the navigation we arrive at Santa Maria di Leuca, which with its imposing lighthouse represents the southernmost point of Puglia, where the Ionian Sea ends and the Adriatic begins.

Going north along the Adriatic coast of Salento we can stop with our boat in Otranto, one of the most popular tourist resorts in Puglia. From the ancient historic center, Otranto is the most important center of this area of Salento, which also houses the towns of Torre dell'Orso and marina di San Foca, with its characteristic natural pools.

From Brindisi to Trani, between seaside villages and trulli

We go north and arrive in an area rich in history, where the seafaring culture of the Greeks and the peasant culture of the Itria valley blend perfectly, a few kilometers inland. Ostuni, the caves of Castellana, Alberobello are just some of the places that we can easily reach from the coast that goes from Brindisi to Monopoli, which with its romantic village has become one of the favorite destinations for tourists who want to live an authentic Apulian experience.
From Monopoli we first reach Polignano a Mare, whose photos of the Lama Monachile beach go around the world and then Bari, passing by the trulli coast, a stretch of coast where the millenary olive groves are accompanied by the typical Apulian rural buildings.
Bari, the regional capital, offers a very interesting historic center and in recent years it has been establishing itself as one of the most important cultural centers in Italy.
Continuing north we arrive in the territory of Barletta, Andria, Trani. Trani, with its cathedral on the sea and its Federiciano castle is certainly the most interesting area of this stretch of coast. In the hinterland, Castel del Monte is worth mentioning, a singular construction from the 1200s, a Unesco heritage site

The Gargano and the Tremiti, by boat along an enchanted coast

North of Barletta we find the salt pans of Margherita di Savoia, before passing Manfredonia and venturing onto one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in the world, the one between Vieste and Mattinata.
White cliffs overlooking the sea, stacks, sea caves and secret coves alternate in this stretch of pristine coast, until you reach Vieste, the pearl of the Gargano, appreciated for its village and very long beaches.
In addition to the town of Viestana, the villages of Peschici and its castle overlooking the sea and that of Rodi Garganico are very interesting, from where to leave with our sailboat for the marine reserve of the Tremiti Islands. This tiny archipelago is a real paradise for diving enthusiasts.

From the Tremiti you can then leave for the nearby Croatian islands such as Lagosta and Korcula (Curzola), passing through the small archipelago of Pelagosa about 50 km from the Italian coast.
