THE Tremiti archipelago it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Puglia by Italian and international tourism. Also known as Diomedee, the Tremiti are considered a true corner of paradise characterized by clear sea, luxuriant and uncontaminated vegetation, bays, promontories, low and sandy coasts, but also high and rocky ones with cliffs overhanging the sea.
Of the five islands that characterize it, only two offer a port equipped for the mooring of the hydrofoils that connect the islands to the mainland. Tremiti ferries: transport and routes
The Tremiti archipelago can be reached purely by sea, through a navigation service, including trembling hydrofoils , which perfectly connects the islands to the mainland. With connections from the ports of Peschici, Vieste and Rodi Garganico ensuring the service to the islands of San Domino and San Nicola, on which it is not allowed to transport vehicles.
However, there are two guaranteed sections: Termoli-Tremiti e Vieste-Tremiti . The Termoli Tremiti ferries are able to offer the connection to the Tremiti islands for every day of the year: the journey time to reach the islands of San Domino or San Nicola from the port of Termoli is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Il port of Termoli , located north of the Gargano peninsula, is the most structured and organized of the ports of departure towards the Tremiti islands. It consists of the presence of three piers: those located at South of the marina of San Pietro, intended as a small tourist port and the one located to the north, which houses the shipyards of Termoli ( CNT ). The port of Termoli has recently expanded with the construction of a new parallel pier which has the capacity to accommodate approximately 300 berths of various sizes (from 8 to 30 metres). Opened to the public in 2009, the Marina di San Pietro is characterized by four piers and two docks, which has been able to accommodate private boats even up to 40 metres.
Situated inside a bay protected by two promontories, Vieste it is located at the end of the Gargano peninsula and has always been a point of reference for departures to tremiti Islands , thanks also to the reduced distance. The small port of Vieste is characterized by the fishing port and the refuge port of S. Eufemia.
The fishing port consists of a pier of about 750 m and the refuge port located between the S. Lorenzo pier and the island of S. Eufemia where a pier of about 300 m extends. Among the on-site services, two slipways, five piers, two mechanical workshops, a warehouse for supplies to fishing boats, two ice-making plants, three refrigerators and three iceboxes for storing fish, petrol and diesel stations stand out. , public fountains for water supply.
Caves and cavities extend along the limestone coast of Vieste, where you can also see the characteristic trabucchi, ancient structural wooden fishing machines that distinguish the Gargano area from the rest of Puglia.
