Vieste is located on the easternmost part of the Gargano promontory, in the province of Foggia, in the northernmost part of Puglia. This beautiful coastal town overlooks the Adriatic Sea and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region.

The territory of the municipality of Vieste extends northwards to the Sfinale Bay, on the border with Peschici, and south to the suggestive Vignanotica Bay, near Mattinata. Towards the interior, Vieste is surrounded by the majestic Umbra Forest and borders the municipalities of Monte Sant'Angelo and Vico del Gargano.

Vieste is part of the Gargano National Park and is about 93 km from Foggia, the provincial capital. Its strategic position makes it easily accessible from various directions, both by land and by sea.

How to get to Vieste by car

Traveling by car is one of the best solutions to reach Vieste, especially if you want to explore the surrounding area in total freedom. Here are the main directions:

  • From the north: take the A14 motorway (Bologna-Taranto) and exit at Poggio Imperiale. From here, continue along the Gargano Superstrada SS693 to Vico del Gargano, continue towards Peschici and then choose between the panoramic coastal road (SP52) or the internal road (SS89) to reach Vieste. Alternatively, you can exit the Superstrada following the signs for Rodi Garganico, and from here reach Peschici by following the coast of Saint Menaios.
  • From Naples: take the A16 Napoli-Canosa di Puglia motorway and exit at Candela. From there, continue on the SS655 to Foggia, then take the SS89 past Manfredonia and Mattinata, to take the SP53 to Vieste.
  • From the south: Those travelling from southern Puglia can take the A14 and exit at Foggia or Cerignola Est, then continue on the SS89 towards Mattinata and continue on the SP53 to Vieste, a panoramic road that runs along the Gargano coast.

Getting to Vieste by bus from Rome or Milan

Getting to Vieste by bus from Naples

For those departing from Naples, we recommend taking a bus of the Air Mobilità company to Foggia (bookable via the Unico Campania app, departing from Metropark Piazza Garibaldi). From Foggia you can continue with a Ferrovie del Gargano bus or Sita Bus.

How to get to Vieste by plane

Vieste can also be reached by plane, thanks to the nearby airports of Foggia and Bari.

  • Foggia Airport “Gino Lisa”: located approximately 73 km from Vieste, it offers national flights to Milan, Turin, Venice and Munich, operated by the airline Lumiwings.
  • Bari “Karol Wojtyła” Airport: about 180 km from Vieste, it is well connected with the rest of Italy and Europe. In summer, a direct transfer service to Vieste.

Other useful airports for reaching Vieste are Naples and Pescara, from which you can continue by car or bus.

How to get to Vieste by train

Vieste does not have a train station, but the closest is Foggia, which is reached by trains from all over Italy. From Foggia you can then take a Ferrovie del Gargano bus, or Sitabus or a taxi to get to Vieste.

An alternative in summer is the railway line Foggia-Peschici Calenelle of the Gargano Railways, which allows you to get even closer to Vieste before continuing with a bus, again of the Gargano Railways.

Getting to Vieste by taxi or NCC
