Due to the constant threat of raids by Saracen pirates, the construction of a series of Watchtowers (in visual contact) was established in 1564. The Watchtowers have a quadrangular base of about 11 meters per side. They are on two floors, the ground floor was used as a warehouse and the upper one as a dwelling, while the roof was used to send messages with fire or smoke signals.
