Marina Piccola is a bay in the center of Vieste, one of the most fascinating places.
The bay of Marina Piccola is bordered by Punta San Francesco and from medieval old town on one side, from Punta Santa Croce and the nineteenth-century village on the other, while the islet of Santa Eufemia, with its Lighthouse, partially closes the bay. The lighthouse islet is of great archaeological interest, in fact there is a cave which in the past was a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Venus Sosandra, protector of sailors.
Marina Piccola was for many centuries the small port of the city, just outside the walls, with the boats lying on the sand but ready to be taken, in the event of a storm, to the shelter of the city walls in the "square of the ditch". It currently houses a charming municipal villa with palm trees and a spectacular view close to the beach, ideal for letting children run around while enjoying an ice cream.
The beach is very suggestive, and you can experience the thrill of diving into the beauties of the village of Vieste.
The presence of a old wreck , now totally hidden by the sand, makes everything even more magical. The width of the Marina Piccola beach, one of the most loved by the local population, has varied a lot in recent years, also due to the work on the new arm of the port, a short distance away.
In the early 2000s it had all but disappeared, but recently it seems to have found a new splendour.
Marina Piccola is the place where most of the events in Vieste are held: concerts, fairs, sporting events, fireworks, etc.
Since 2015 it has also hosted the Adriatic cinema theater, adjacent to the open-air amphitheater, overlooking the village of Vieste.
Here is the Marina Piccola B&B , holiday home "La Banchina", many places, including pizzerias, kiosks with homemade ice cream and pastry shops.
