Il Gargano in autumn It is an enchantment of colors and intimate atmospheres, perfect for a journey that moves from the sea to the mountains, to discover the villages and nature of the promontory. Let's discover together an itinerary that starts from Vieste and passes through some of the most suggestive stages: let yourself be guided on this journey through spectacular panoramas, authentic scents and timeless stories.

Vieste: The Pearl of Gargano
pizzomunno

Our journey begins at Vieste, known as the “Pearl of the Gargano”. Even in autumn, this village overlooking the Adriatic maintains its special charm, with the sea that turns an intense blue and the alleys that smell of saltiness. Start your exploration from the historic center, among the white houses and narrow streets, up to the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and to the suggestive Castello Svevo.

Stroll along the coast to the Beach of the Pizzomunno, where the legendary monolith watches over the waves alone. In this season, the village is quieter and ideal for experiencing Vieste calmly, perhaps enjoying a local dessert in one of the cafes that dot the center.

Peschici: The Magic of Sunsets and the Charm of the Cliff

From Vieste, we move towards Peschici, one of the most picturesque villages in Gargano, perched on a white cliff that plunges into the sea. This village is famous for its breathtaking sunsets, which in autumn are colored with warm and deep tones, offering unique spectacles. Stroll through the narrow streets of the center, characterized by white houses and suggestive views of the sea, and climb up to the Peschici Castle for a view that embraces the coast and the horizon.

Peschici

Take advantage of autumn to explore this village without the summer crowds, breathing in the crisp air and perhaps discovering the small artisan shops and typical taverns, where you can taste fresh fish dishes and enjoy a glass of local wine.

Vico del Gargano: History and Tradition in the Village of Lovers ❤️

The journey continues towards the hinterland, to Vico del Gargano, one of the most fascinating villages and known as the "Village of Lovers". Its medieval streets and stone houses wind like an ancient labyrinth that invites you to get lost, until you reach the Kissing Alley, one of the most romantic corners of Vico.

Autumn is also synonymous with flavours: stop in one of the local shops to taste the local specialities, such as paposce, cartellate and filled wafers, perfect for a sweet break. The historic churches, such as the Mother Church of San Pietro, and the scents of roasted chestnuts make the atmosphere welcoming and perfect for a timeless stroll.

Foresta Umbra: The Enchanted Nature between Trees and Silence

Going into nature, our itinerary takes us to the Umbra Forest, one of the oldest and most fascinating wooded areas in Italy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the green heart of Gargano, where autumn paints the beech, maples and oak trees with warm and evocative shades.

Walk along the forest trails, ideal for all types of hikers, and reach the pond, a small hidden oasis that in autumn becomes a perfect mirror of the colours of the season. The quiet that envelops the forest in this period is unique: you will have the sensation of being part of a natural painting. It is the ideal place to regenerate, far from the noise and surrounded by an almost magical nature.

Monte Sant'Angelo: Spirituality and Infinite Views ⛪️

We conclude our itinerary with Monte Sant'Angelo, a village with a strong spiritual identity and rich in history. The village is located at 800 meters above sea level and is home to the famous Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo, a pilgrimage destination and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its mystical atmosphere is amplified by the autumnal silence, which envelops the village and invites a moment of reflection.

Don't miss a visit to the Junno district and the streets that tell ancient and evocative stories. From the top of Monte Sant'Angelo there is a breathtaking view of the promontory and the sea: a unique spectacle, especially at sunset, when the colors of autumn blend with those of the sky and the Gargano landscape.

The Flavors of Gargano: Autumn on the Table

At each stop on our itinerary, the flavours of Gargano complete the experience. Taste typical dishes such as orecchiette with le cime di rapa, the cardoncello mushrooms and  dragged in wild boar sauce. Among the seasonal products, chestnuts and extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality are the protagonists of a simple but tasty cuisine.
