One of the questions we are asked most often is: “With this wind, where is the best place to go to the beach?”
The answer is simpler than it seems. In Vieste, just observe where the wind is blowing and choose a naturally sheltered beach. This way, you'll find calmer and, often, clearer seas, because the waves lift less sand and sediment.
If the wind comes from the north
When they blow Tramontana o Mistral, the southern coast is generally the most sheltered.
the sbeaches in the South, especially in the first stretch of the Scialara beach and Portonuovo, often offer the best conditions: fewer waves, calmer water, and a pleasant breeze, without the wind that comes directly from the sea. 
If the wind comes from the south or southeast
With the Sirocco the situation is reversed.
The beaches of the northern coast, such as San Lorenzo e Scialmarino, often become the best choice. Being more protected from southerly winds, the sea tends to be calmer than on the beaches on the opposite side.
The exceptions you should know about
As always, there are some exceptions worth mentioning.
Moline, despite being located on the northern coast, faces south. For this reason, it can be well sheltered even when northerly winds blow and the sea is rough along the rest of the coast.
Another often repaired point is the last stretch of San Lorenzo beach, in the area below the church, where with the Tramontana and Maestrale winds you can find surprisingly calm conditions.
In general, it is also worth noting the ends of the baysSpots protected by rocky cliffs or with a slightly different exposure than the rest of the beach often manage to shield you from the wind. Even when the shoreline is exposed, a few dozen meters is all it takes to find a more sheltered spot, with fewer gusts and a decidedly more pleasant sea.
A little trick
In reality, you don't need to memorize all the beaches.
Simply open a map of Vieste, note which direction the wind is blowing, and choose a beach on the opposite side, protected by the coast. In most cases, you'll find calmer seas, clearer water, and better conditions for spending the day.
Of course, the sea is never the same from one day to the next. Wind speed, wave height, and currents can quickly change the situation. However, knowing the exposure of the beaches is an excellent starting point for choosing the most suitable stretch of coast for the current conditions each day.
